To submit an assignment

Written assignments, eg. essays, reports, case studies, etc. will be submitted online in the relevant unit site.  There will be a submission spot for each assignment.

This is the assignment submission icon:
Lecturers have different ways of naming assignments; some name it the same as in the Unit Outline; others name it, eg. Assignment 1; others, eg. Assessment 1, Assessment Task 1; some put the due date in the name.   But the icon is always the same.  If it is not clear from the name at the submission spot which assignment it is, please ask your lecturer to make it clearer.

Submissions spots may be at the top of the site; or in a section called Assessments, etc.; or in the week/topic in which they are due.   Make sure you know where they are!

To upload written assignment as a file:
  1. Unless otherwise directed, upload as a Word document, so that your lecturer can insert comments.  Insert a header in your assignment with your name, and the name of the assignment in it.  NOTE: Assignment cover sheets are now only required for offline submissions.  Please keep the file name on your assignment reasonably short, without punctuation, or symbols, except for hyphen  -  and underscore _ and preferably only one full stop before the file type (at the end of the file name).  Longer file names, and various symbols, or punctuation marks,  can cause technical problems.
    EG.  J Smith CHCCOM005 Assignment 1.docx

  6. Either way, your assignment is uploaded and you will receive an automatic alert to your email inbox to say it has been successful.  Your lecturer will also receive an email to let them know you have submitted your assignment.  Your submitted file, or when you return to the submission spot, will appear as:

To submit an online assignment:
  1. An online assignment is one where the student clicks on the assignment submission spot, is presented with a question/s, or instructions, and the Add submission button.   You will most likely not have already answered in a Word document.
  2. Click on Add submission button, tick the 'I certify..................' statement.
  3. Type your answer/s into the Online text box, and click Save changes, and assignment is submitted.
  4. If you wish to add more text, or edit what you have done, click on Edit submission button, edit your work, and save changes.  Note that you will need to tick the 'I certify.........' statement again.
  5. If you have already done the assignment in a Word document, and want to copy and paste the text in, it is important to follow these steps:
    • Copy your text.
    • Come to the answer text box, in the online assignment submission spot
    • Click on the Paste special tool:  and paste your text into 1. Content to be pasted.
    • At 2. Select from where the text was formatted, tick Paste as unformatted text, even if the source is a Word document.  This will strip all the formatting, which is necessary as Word or other source formatting, can cause significant problems.
    • You can preview at 3. and if happy, click Complete Paste button at 4.
    • You can then complete your assignment and Submit.

To submit and quiz, or a lesson:
  1. Undertake the quiz, or the lesson, and when you have completed this, and are happy with it click Submit all and finish.
  2. Note that a quiz may need to be done in a set time; you will see this when you start the quiz.  And once you start, you will see a timer on the right hand side of the page, underneath the quiz Navigation panel.  You cannot pause this timer!
  3. Usually if the student does not complete the quiz in the given time, then the quiz is usually automatically submitted with the answers that have been completed.  If the quiz has not been set to submit all answers when the time is up, you will lose all the work you have done.  It pays to check with your lecturer that the quiz has been set so that all answers are automatically submitted.  Even better, click Submit all and finish before the time ends!
